The Federal Court refused to recognise Lina Joy's conversion from Muslim to Christianity, to the thunderous applause of the sea of Muslim Youth Movement members outside Palace of Justice, Putrajaya yesterday.
Isn't that a defeat for secularism and constitutionalism in this country? The Federal Court, being the highest court in the country should make decisions based on evidence and fact rather by religious influence (ie. being secular) and respect an individual's fundamental freedom to practice the religion of his/her choice (ie. being constitutional).
Why subject Lina Joy to the Syariah Court when she's not a Muslim (she was baptised in 1998)? It now seems they want syariah to apply to non-Muslims, or at least former Muslims in their midst, too!
The Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim said in his ruling, "She cannot at her own whim simply enter or leave her religion." And I thought the verse "Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan" in the Rukunegara was the freedom to practice religion of one's choice.
The court ruled 2-1 against the defendant: Both judges in the majority were Muslim, while the only non-Muslim in the court (Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Justice Richard Malanjum) argued passionately that Malaysia's highest law should be constitutional and secular, and criticising the NRD’s act as “unconstitutional and discriminatory”. Bravo Justice Richard. We heart you!Watch the news coverage here (Windows Media Player required)
[UPDATE 01.06.07]
Just to make things clear, since there's a hot debate going on in my spit-back section. What I meant to say was,NO court or authority (be it Syariah Court or politicians dan yg. lain-lain) should be easily allowed to have implied powers to curtail rights that are constitutionally granted. The Federal Constitution is and must remain in law, supreme. In an event of any inconsistency or conflict between the provisions of State Enactments and of the Federal Constitution, the latter must prevail.
This I quote from the Bar Council's say on the decision made by the High Court.

Software Malfunction! |
Arghhh... am having my Internal Medicine long case exam tomorrow (yes, it's a Sunday, can you believe it?!). And I spent the whole day fixing some software malfunction coz I screwed some registries while optimising my laptop the other day. Managed to finally and successfully install and run ZoneAlarm Security Suite v7.0 and Webroot SpySweeper v5.3. Noticed some changes in the new ZoneAlarm program interface, as the previously ZoneLabs is now owned by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. It uses the Kaspersky antivirus engine too (touted the world's fastest antivirus update engine)! Damn... I can't believe I still have time to blog this. Hope my examiner Dr. J would be extra good mood tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

Road Retards |
This shit happened to me when my car was perfectly parked in a properly designated parking bay in a legitimate parking lot. All of my four tyres were inside the yellow parking lines and my car was perfectly aligned. I was not in any way at fault to deserve this kind of shit! My only sin was to park my car next to a RETARD!This RETARD obviously has only a quarter of a brain as he/she could only look at one dimension while reversing his/her car. Probably shaken by my blaring alarm, that piece of shit pedalled down and made a deeper dent into my baby's arse.

- If that retard has boobs, IT (indicating inanimate/non-human object) is a typical bitch (female) driver.
- If that retard has a dick, IT must be an atypical bastard (male) driver. It's a noob, a bloke, a fucker, garbage of society, asshole, fucktard!!!
- IT must be brought up by bitches and bastards as IT didn't even bother to leave a "I am sorry" note.

This had happened to me once with a different car, same case of hit and run with my car totally stationary in a parking bay. I thank God I wasn't killed by these fucktards on the road. On the other hand, I hope these pukimak macibai hamkalings die of cerebral syphillis and lymphogranulomatous venereum.

Exam stress |
What are exams for? I personally think it is a good way to assess one's regurgitation prowess. The ability to induce an acute information-diarrhoea on the exam day.I'm normally not this messy...
I so need a long holiday... and a winning lottery ticket worth RM9999 billions!
124hrs 30mins more to go till that dreadful day!
