The Departure of K24Z2

In the wee hours of July 11th, 2009, my front gate was broken into and my beloved G8 Accord 2.4 stolen right from my porch, driven away, uneventfully...


I got up early that Saturday morning for my weekend rounds at the hospital, expecting to be greeted by my shiny Accord. Instead, an empty porch (with wifey's brand new City untouched) greeted me, with the sodomised main gate spreading wide.

What ensued was pretty routine, if you have had a car stolen - heartache, Accord-sick, police report, unnecessary waiting + stupid procedures, insurance claims, getting a secondary car, and shopping for a new ride. And of course, replacing the missing essential items that went away with the thieving bastards.

I counted myself lucky as I have this silly habit of keeping my wallet and sometimes netbook in the car, which thankfully I didn't on the previous night. All in all, I lost 2 stethoscopes, Smart Tag + TouchN'Go worth RM200+, my Sony Ericsson W880i cellphone, and a few thumbdrives for USB Audio. All minor nothings compared to the car itself, sob sob!

I guess if something's not meant to be, it's not meant to be! So adios, WSD 8208!

Shit Happens

Barger, kena saman again! These fellas seriously got nothing better to do one, standing on the highway divider shooting laser at cars. Catching unemployed medical graduate driving a little over the speed limit in a hurry to the gym! Think I din see you, idiotic pot-bellied sucker! I lazy to brake only... there goes my new tub of protein! Fcuks!!!

He said Dua, I say Diu!

The godfather of medicine Health Minister, Latok Chua announced yesterday that newly graduated medical doctors will have to undergo TWO years of hell-holeship housemanship compared to the previous one year! What pissed my willy off is that the salary will still be the same for the entire 2 years.

Today's paper said that those bargers will seek to promote doctors to the U43 Grade only AFTER housemanship. You and I know what "will seek" means in Malaysian context! In other words, for the first 2 years of fresh graduates' life, we need to eat shit to survive. They claimed the consolation for prolonging the housemanship for another year is that we can enjoy a RM500 pay raise (upon approval of "will seek") and be allowed to pursue further studies right after housemanship. Be realistic lah, we often hear stories in the past that people got into a postgrad program as early as during HO (the rule was 3 yrs after completing houseman). Why still need to "will seek this" and "will seek that" when you have confirmed the duration of housemanship? Just blardy confirm the salary lah! We are ready to give and take if the deal is right, don't make it so arbitrary ok latok?!

Footnote: Sigh... there goes my 4-year plan of replacing Latok Chua! Niamah...

Fuel price hike! WTF??!

According to paultan.org, the government is studying on the possibility of finding reasons to increase the fuel price yet again, and they're going to implement it real soon too! When are they gonna increase Malaysian doctor's salary gddmit!!

Note to self: No more driving back from BP to KL!

Subungual Haematoma

Haven't start training for Seremban Half Marathon yet, mainly due to my subungual haematoma (bruise under the nail, also known as runner's nail in this case) sustained from Penang Bridge Marathon. Not sure if I'm gonna train at all, with impending exam stress and the painless purplish toe I'm having!

Unlike tridoc who's going to Lumphini Park this Friday for a highly specialised training with the hope of gunning it under 2hrs for Seremban Half (LOL!), I'm lying low nursing my bruised toe!

Consulted my orthopaedic surgeon, Prof. H this morning, as I was contemplating of draining the clotted blood by poking a heated needle through my toe nail (the standard treatment for subungual haematoma). He advised me against it, as my bruise is not huge and it is painless. Most importantly I wouldn't want any bacterial infestation by creating a hole on my toenail. And the complications of onycholysis and what nots. Will try jog a little tomorrow. See how it goes. The blistering hot weather doesn't help at all!

Overflow

Saw an elderly patient tossing around in his bed this morning, restless and "delirious", as one of my mates put it. Then I saw his urine bag - it was full and backflowing all the way back into his bladder!
Kalau itu you punya bapak yang tak boleh kencing, you pun nanti-lah jugak ke?
God knows how long he'd been enduring a full bladder. When I told the nurse, she gave me the "nanti-lah" attitude.

No, I didn't say that to her. I wished I'd said that but I didn't. Why didn't I?

Saman Ordeal

For those who thinks that settling your summonses online is convinient and saves time, reconsider your options. I just settled four summonses last week - 3 for speeding and 1 for traffic obstruction, totalling RM520. Went to the PDRM booth in Terminal 1, Seremban. To cut the long story short, the police officer reduced the compounds to a total of RM340 after much acting, and asked for RM20 "duit kopi". All in all I saved RM160, enough to pay for another speeding ticket and one more traffic obstruction compound!

Allergic Rhinitis

The term is allergic rhinitis, a condition I suspected I had been having since I was little. Being plagued with moderately severe childhood asthma in my early years, I'm clearly an allergic person! Although the asthma attacks had stop since I was 10, this nose problem I had been having persisted.

The symptoms are alternating nasal blocks; sometimes my left nostril is blocked, sometimes right, at times both. This disturbs sleep and made me a mouth-breather.

Being posted in Otorhinolaryngology (E.N.T.) for the past 2 weeks cleared up my doubts. My E.N.T. teacher examined me and said I had a grossly hypertrophied (enlarged) inferior turbinate, in which the mucosa is pale (signifies long-term, chronic allergic reaction).


My nasal septum (the flesh that divides your nostril into two orifice), is deviated to the left. These predisposes me to a great risk of having sinusitis, as an enlarged inferior turbinate and a deviated nasal septum could block the drainage of maxillary sinus, thus causing mucus overflow, infection, and subsequently mucopurulent explosion! I could die!

He also examined my throat, and discovered my posterior oropharyngeal wall is nodular (small lymphatic swellings), a sign of chronic postnasal drip.


I did not know I was so pathological! (whimpers)...

I, Wimp!

Ever since injuring my wrist (previous entries here[1] and here[2]), I could feel that my metabolism had grinded to a halt. With the voracious appetite I had developed during my 2-month stint of weight-training, I'm getting fat as my wrist had hindered me from visiting the gym the past 5 weeks. I've gained 4kgs since stopping gym, and I could feel my belly popping my size 32 pants (whimpers)!

In my hurry to get back to gym, I did some bench-press (80kgs mind you!) last week before total recovery and snapped some partially healed ligaments on the same wrist, warranting me another 6-weeks of gym-free period. Fucks...

To add salt to the wound, the cock-up Virago bike which injured my wrist is still in the workshop as they did not know what was wrong with it. The last time I called to check, they said they were sending the bike to KL. That means I couldn't sit for the JPJ test for my bike license! Darn...

I'm making a point to run at least 3 times a week, each time burning more than 300kcal and covering at least 5kms (measurement possible thanks to my Sony Walkman). Need to get a pair of good running shoes. Tiao...

Taiwan Quake Halts the Net

Telephone and Internet services were disrupted across Asia yesterday morning after a powerful earthquake (7.1 Richter scale; Tuesday 1234 GMT) off Taiwan's southern tip damaged undersea cables used by phone customers and web surfers from Japan to South East Asia, and even the United States.


That explains the forever-crawling loading time in Bloggers!

The earthquake damaged submarine cables that form part of the region-wide Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2), disrupting local access to Internet services and websites hosted overseas to a practical standstill.

APCN2 is a 19,000km long fibre-optic cable network linking Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, Europe, and Australia. The network has been up and running since Oct 2002 and is jointly operated by 26 Asian telecommunications carriers, including TM Bhd.

TM Net said Malaysian Internet users would experience "bumper-to-bumper-crawl" in accessing contents and websites hosted overseas, especially in the United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Europe. TM Net added it made no estimate of how long it would take to restore normal access, but other service providers in the region said the damaged cables could take several weeks to repair.

To the message posted by mad max, the slow-loading sidebar could be due to the widgets which scripts are hosted in overseas servers. If all goes well after the cables are repaired, and I sure hope it does, that must be the reason. Sigh... this is disrupting the refurbishing process of ҜαίخόρЋЯзпїα™.
