Italiannies

I joined Rach's family to this restaurant called Italiannies (pronounced ee-ta-lee-an-niece) at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara yesterday for lunch. Categorised as casual dining, it simply means that its market segment comprises between fast food establishments and fine dining restaurant. Flipping through the menu, I noticed at the back that Italiannies is runned by the TGIF management (wtf? American company selling Italian food?).

This outlet at The Curve is the third, the other two being at 1 Utama (new wing) and AEON Tebrau City, JB. Italiannies is well-known for serving HUGE portions. With that, we ordered our food with the word "sharing" in mind. Now the food...

Appetizer was standard: Bread with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar. Tasted okay.

I ordered their flagship house specialty Spaghetti and Meatballs. Nothing special you say? There were two giant homemade seasoned meatballs about the size of a tennis ball under the pasta sauce! No kidding, if they weren't the size of a tennis ball, they're at least the size of a full-blown indirect inguinal hernia.

The spaghetti tasted okay, nothing special, could make it on my own at home. The most expensive ingredient on this plate should be the two tennis-sized meatballs, nothing else. This is priced at about RM29. The pic below shows my portion of Spaghetti and Meatballs on my plate, with the meatball being cut into less than a quarter the original size.

Still not convinced? Grab your own testicles, if you could grab it on one hand, your balls are smaller than Italiannies' meatballs. Next, the Salad with Calamari. It was just some salad with fried calamari. Again, big portion... but nothing else.

And Fried Calamari. It is just a plate of nicely fried calamari. Period. Ok ok with some sauce served alongside it too.

The Grilled Salmon Oreganato. A slab of grilled salmon with grilled potatoes and some local veggies for almost RM50? The grilled salmon tasted fine but Rach disagreed. Being a fish sucker, I downed her portion. Haha!

The ambience... a relaxed atmosphere with very western settings. Liked it. Table service was good (think TGIF. Waitresses kneeling down next to you begging for your order... hmm in this kind of medieval setting that's just so kinky. I love it!)

The wall screamed "So Gao Much, You Must SHARE"! Not a good place to be in with Anti-Social Society members who hate sharing.

Summary. Italiannies came across to me as a fast food joint which serves giant portions of mediocre Italian food. Liked the ambience. Would go again to try their other house specialties before concluding if it is worth your visit. Donation is very much appreciated in order for me to complete this task. Please contact me!
